No treat held out in front of him.\n<\/p><p>\nHe simply decided that he wanted to come closer.\n<\/p><p>\nAfter weeks of waiting, something as ordinary as a puppy happily approaching you suddenly feels enormous.\n<\/p><p>\nFrankie taught us that progress isn't always about doing more.\n<\/p><p>\nSometimes it's about creating enough safety for a puppy to take the next step in their own time.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--cream\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Hooper Needed Somewhere He Could Feel Safe<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nHooper came to us after an experience no puppy should have to go through.\n<\/p><p>\nHe had been badly attacked by other dogs in the shelter and had almost died.\n<\/p><p>\nFor an entire week after that experience, he slept beside me at night.\n<\/p><p>\nThere wasn't a complicated training plan behind it.\n<\/p><p>\nHe had been through enough.\n<\/p><p>\nWhat he seemed to need most was closeness, warmth and the feeling that he could finally relax.\n<\/p><p>\nSometimes foster care is about teaching.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd sometimes it's simply about giving a puppy enough time to feel safe again.\n<\/p><\/div><figure class=\"pyr-photo-single\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hooper rescue puppy during foster care in Cyprus\" src=\"https:\/\/puppyyogaretreats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_2105-scaled.jpg\" title=\"\">\n<\/figure><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--soft\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Amber Learned That Walks Could Be Enjoyable<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nAmber was a hunting-dog mix who was frightened of going for walks.\n<\/p><p>\nFor many puppies, seeing a lead means excitement.\n<\/p><p>\nFor Amber, being outside initially felt much more overwhelming.\n<\/p><p>\nSo we practised slowly and repeatedly.\n<\/p><p>\nSmall steps. Time to look around. Time to become familiar with the experience.\n<\/p><p>\nGradually, the outside world became less frightening and more normal.\n<\/p><p>\nAmber was a lovely reminder that socialisation isn't about showing a puppy as many things as possible as quickly as possible.\n<\/p><p>\nIt's about giving them positive experiences at a pace they can actually cope with.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Sometimes They Arrive Incredibly Small<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nGeorge and Frankie were so young when they came to us that they still needed to be hand-fed.\n<\/p><p>\nAt that age, you notice everything.\n<\/p><p>\nHow much they've eaten. Whether they're gaining strength. Whether today feels a little different from yesterday.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd then, remarkably quickly, the tiny puppy who needed help eating turns into the puppy racing around the garden as though they have never needed assistance with anything in their life.\n<\/p><p>\nWatching that transformation is one of the loveliest parts of fostering.\n<\/p><\/div><figure class=\"pyr-photo-single\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Very young rescue puppies being fostered in Cyprus\" src=\"https:\/\/puppyyogaretreats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_4271-3.jpg\" title=\"\">\n<\/figure><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--cream\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>And Sometimes Everything Changes Overnight<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nThen there was Cupcake.\n<\/p><p>\nCupcake contracted parvovirus.\n<\/p><p>\nSuddenly, our normal routine disappeared and was replaced by waiting, worrying and wondering whether she would make it.\n<\/p><p>\nThere were nights when we simply didn't know.\n<\/p><p>\nThose experiences remind you that foster care isn't made up only of cute photographs and puppy cuddles.\n<\/p><p>\nThere can be frightening days too.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd when a puppy recovers, completely ordinary puppy behaviour suddenly feels extraordinary.\n<\/p><p>\nEating.\n<\/p><p>\nPlaying.\n<\/p><p>\nGetting into mischief.\n<\/p><p>\nAll the little things you were desperately hoping to see again.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--soft\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>What a Normal Day With Our Foster Puppies Looks Like<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nFortunately, most days are much less dramatic.\n<\/p><p>\nAt around <strong>7 a.m.<\/strong>, we bring the puppies out of their Puppy Room.\n<\/p><p>\nBreakfast comes first.\n<\/p><p>\nThen they spend time playing and exploring in the garden.\n<\/p><p>\nThere is running, wrestling, investigating things that no human would ever consider interesting and, eventually, a lot of sleeping.\n<\/p><p>\nPuppies need plenty of rest, so quiet time is just as much a part of their routine as playing, learning and meeting people.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Afternoons Bring Food, Guests and Sometimes Puppy Yoga<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nLater in the afternoon, the puppies have another meal.\n<\/p><p>\nSome days are quiet.\n<\/p><p>\nOn others, visitors join us for <strong>Kaffee, Kuchen &amp; Cuddles.\n<\/p><p>\nOr you may join one of our Puppy Beach Walks along the Cyprus coast.\n<\/p><p>\nYou don't need experience with rescue dogs to contribute something positive.\n<\/p><p>\nSometimes being calm, patient and kind is already enough.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--soft\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Evening Walks by the Sea<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nSome evenings, we take the puppies to the coastline around the EDRO III Shipwreck and Sea Caves.\n<\/p><p>\nIt's one of our favourite places later in the day, when the light becomes softer and the sea breeze picks up.\n<\/p><p>\nFor the puppies, the walk brings another set of experiences: the sound of the sea, different surfaces beneath their paws, unfamiliar smells, people passing and an environment completely different from the garden.\n<\/p><p>\nFor us, it's simply a beautiful way to spend part of the evening with them.\n<\/p><p>\nAround sunset, we return and the puppies settle back into their Puppy Room for the night.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd the following morning, at around seven, it all begins again.\n<\/p><\/div><figure class=\"pyr-photo-single\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rescue puppies during a sunset Puppy Beach Walk in Cyprus\" src=\"https:\/\/puppyyogaretreats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_8391-scaled.jpg\" title=\"\">\n<\/figure><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Socialisation Happens in Hundreds of Small Moments<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nAfter almost 50 foster puppies, one of the biggest things we've learned is that socialisation isn't one particular activity.\n<\/p><p>\nIt's hundreds of small experiences.\n<\/p><p>\nMeeting a new person.\n<\/p><p>\nHearing an unfamiliar sound.\n<\/p><p>\nWalking over a new surface.\n<\/p><p>\nTravelling somewhere different.\n<\/p><p>\nFeeling the wind beside the sea.\n<\/p><p>\nBeing touched gently by someone they haven't met before.\n<\/p><p>\nTrying something that felt frightening yesterday and discovering that today it feels just a little easier.\n<\/p><p>\nTo us, these moments can seem ordinary.\n<\/p><p>\nTo a puppy still discovering the world, they're anything but ordinary.\n<\/p><\/div><blockquote class=\"pyr-quote\"><p>Fostering is made up of hundreds of little moments that may not look important from the outside \u2013 until one day you realise how far a puppy has come.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--cream\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Why Rescue Puppies Are Part of Our Retreat<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nThe puppies aren't part of our retreat simply because puppies and yoga make a cute combination.\n<\/p><p>\nWe foster rescue puppies in cooperation with local animal welfare organisations and give them time, care and positive social experiences while they're preparing for the next chapter of their lives.\n<\/p><p>\nOur retreats and puppy events help us finance this work and continue taking in more puppies.\n<\/p><p>\nThat means guests who stay with us or join one of our events can help in two ways.\n<\/p><p>\nTheir booking supports the work financially.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd their interaction can become another small, positive experience in a puppy's life.\n<\/p><p>\nBut the goal is always the same.\n<\/p><h3>The best outcome is that eventually they leave us.<\/h3><p>\nBecause fostering isn't about keeping them.\n<\/p><p>\nIt's about helping them reach somewhere permanent.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--soft\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Saying Goodbye Works. Almost Always.<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nPeople often ask how it's possible to foster puppies, become attached to them and then let them go.\n<\/p><p>\nThe answer is that you learn.\n<\/p><p>\nYou know from the beginning that you're only one chapter in their story.\n<\/p><p>\nYou watch them grow.\n<\/p><p>\nYou watch confidence appear.\n<\/p><p>\nYou help them prepare.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd then someone else falls in love with them.\n<\/p><p>\nThe goodbye can still be emotional, but seeing photographs later of a former foster puppy relaxed in their new home makes it worthwhile.\n<\/p><p>\nOne puppy leaves.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd eventually, that creates space to help another.\n<\/p><p>\nAfter almost 50 puppies, you'd think we'd have become very disciplined about this.\n<\/p><p>\nWe almost have.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>And Then There Was Balu<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nBalu was supposed to be a foster puppy too.\n<\/p><p>\nThat was the plan.\n<\/p><p>\nHe came into our care like the others and was supposed to stay temporarily.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd somewhere along the way, temporary stopped being the plan.\n<\/p><p>\nBalu stayed.\n<\/p><p>\nSo when people ask whether it's possible to foster puppies without eventually <a href=\"\/de\/what-is-a-foster-fail\/\">keeping one<\/a>, the answer is:\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Yes.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nAlmost always.\n<\/p><p>\nBalu is our exception.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd apparently every than when we started.\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Every puppy is different.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nWhat helps one puppy may not be what another needs.\n<\/p><p>\n<strong><a href=\"\/de\/how-long-rescue-dog-trust-you\/\">Trust<\/a> has its own timeline.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nFrankie needed almost four weeks before he came towards us wagging his tail.\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Safety sometimes comes before training.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nHooper needed time to feel secure again.\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Confidence grows through small experiences.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nAmber learned gradually that being outside could become something positive.\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Routine creates security.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nMeals, garden time, sleep, interaction and familiar rhythms give puppies something predictable while so much else in their lives is changing.\n<\/p><p>\nAnd perhaps most importantly:\n<\/p><p>\n<strong>Fostering is supposed to end.<\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\nThe aim isn't for the puppies to need us forever.\n<\/p><p>\nIt's to help them reach the point where they don't.\n<\/p><\/div><\/section><section class=\"pyr-chapter pyr-chapter--soft\"><header class=\"pyr-chapter-header\"><h2>Puppy Number 50<\/h2><\/header><div class=\"pyr-read\"><p>\nWe don't know yet what puppy number 50 will be like.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll arrive full of confidence.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll need patience.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll love everyone immediately.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll choose one particular person.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll be wonderfully easy.\n<\/p><p>\nMaybe they'll cause complete chaos.\n<\/p><p>\nAlmost 50 puppies have taught us not to make too many predictions.\n<\/p><p>\nBut hopefully, number 50 will follow the same path as almost all of those who came before.\n<\/p><p>\nThey'll arrive.\n<\/p><p>\nThey'll grow.\n<\/p><p>\nThey'll learn.\n<\/p><p>\nSomeone will fall in
